Amy Sallin

Last Thursday Amy Sallin came to speak  to our class. A little of her background is that she Connects visionary students with the resources they need to achieve their entrepreneurial dreams. Plan and execute the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship's Business Plan Competition as well as the Jones + Foster Accelerator program.Amy talked about one of the ways to find start up funding for a business. One of the ways is winning a  business competition, which is very hard.
She talks about the UW business plan competitition:

  • there is $70,000 prizes awareded.
Benifits:

  • Make serious progress on your idea/vision
  • Gain visibility from the entire community
  • Build your network of contacts
  • Get feedback from other entrepreneurs
  • Receive skilled coaching  and mentoring
  • Win money to start your company
She gave tips on what to say when you are proposing your business plan in the competition. She states that you have to be honest and realistic about your business. You can't say for example every body will buy and like your product that's not realistic. Also do your research because some people will say they have no competitors but they do. Her advice for a team was to have 4-5 people but 10 people was like over kill. At the same time she said if you have more people you do less talking.

Fantastic Apps

My company will be called Fantastic Apps:
Fantastic Apps is a company that will build personal Apps or business Apps for people or companies that want quality but low prices. And who also wants Apps or App build in a decent amount of time. I will have already built Apps, so I can have app examples for my company to showcase to potential clients.
To do so my company can use an App Previewer app. Clients can Install the previewer on their smartphone and show any app my company is building or have built live on their phones. So my potential clients can watch example apps or already made apps live in action on their smartphone.

There will be different price ranges for personal apps and business apps. Like for example a guitar player off the street s decide they want an app theirs will be cheaper than a small business owner who wants an app. There will be different package deals for personal and business clients. For already made apps it will be cheaper then apps made from scratch.

Here's my rough draft of my companies logo:

Right now he is working on SideXSide with his wife and also still sells books. He is also an author of fiction, mystery and nonprofit books, as well as co-owner with his wife, Mary Holste. He writes books on all kinds of different subjects,he doesn't just right about one subject he is very diverse in his books. He puts his books on Kindle because Kindle allows for more self publishing, and he gets 70% of sales.

When listening to Erick talk about writing books it made me think about how i have ideas to write a book and that i should start writing a book. I just want  to start something and just finish it. Basically he said before you start a business you should start something and finish it because that's something you can say as a business owner that you can finish something.
